چکیده

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of nitroglycerin and phenylephrine-induced arterial hypertension on regional myocardial blood flow in awake dogs with acute occlusion of the left circumflex coronary artery. Myocardial blood flow to four transmural layers from epicardium to endocardium was estimated with 7-9 micron radionuclide labeled microspheres in 1) the nonischemic myocardium, 2) the central ischemic zone, and 3) the border zone separating ischemic from normally perfused myocardium. Measurements were repeated 1) during infusion of nitroglycerin, 0.015 mg/kg/min, 2) during phenylephrine administered to increase arterial pressure 60 mm Hg above the control measurements, and 3) during combined nitroglycerin and phenylephrine administration. Both nitroglycerin and phenylephrine increased myocardial blood

Endothelin receptor antagonists in a beagle model of pulmonary hypertension: contribution to possible potential therapy?

OBJECTIVES This study investigated the pharmacologic effect of endothelin receptor antagonists on cardiopulmonary hemodynamic variables in a beagle model of pulmonary hypertension. BACKGROUND We recently developed a beagle model of pulmonary hypertension that allows accurate determination of cardiopulmonary hemodynamic variables and is associated with elevated plasma endothelin-1 concentratio...

Effect of nitroglycerin inhalation on patients with pulmonary hypertension undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the postoperative hemodynamic effects of nitroglycerin inhalation on patients with pulmonary hypertension undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery. METHODS Twenty patients who underwent mitral valve replacement surgery were included in the study. In the surgical intensive care unit, at T0 (before the inhalation of nitroglycerin), basal sy...

Role of intravenous nitroglycerin in the treatment of severe pregnancy-induced hypertension complicated by pulmonary edema.

Intravenous nitroglycerin would appear to be an ideal agent for the treatment of severe pregnancy-induced hypertension complicated by cardiogenic pulmonary edema. Nitroglycerin infusion effectively reduces preload by venous dilatation and, at higher doses, results in arterial vasodilatation. Because of these pharmacologic properties, the effects of intravenous nitroglycerin were studied in thre...

Combination of inhaled nitric oxide with i.v. nitroglycerin or with a prostacyclin analogue in the treatment of experimental pulmonary hypertension.

We have studied the effect of combining inhaled nitric oxide (NO) with an i.v. vasodilator agent, nitroglycerin, or ciloprost, a prostacyclin analogue, during acute pulmonary hypertension in pigs, induced by continuous infusion of a thromboxane analogue (U46619), adjusted to maintain mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP) at 40 mm Hg. The effects of the different treatments on MPAP and pulmonary...

THE EFFECTS OF CAPTOPRIL ON PULMONARY AND SYS TEMIC ARTERIAL PRESSURES IN HIGHALTITUDE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effect of captopril on both systemic (P.a) and pulmonary arterial pressures (PPA) in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Seventeen patients (mean age 44±6.8 years) with HAPH and mild to moderate systemic arterial hypertension were included in the study. All patients underwent right heart catheterization with measurem...
